Cambodia’s First Step Towards a Carbon-Neutral Generation:
Launch of the ‘NZ Generation Tribe Program’
– Appointment Ceremony for Five Ambassadors and Planning of Carbon-Neutral Cultural Activities
(Siem Reap, Cambodia, December 15, 2024) – Verywords officially inaugurated the first cohort of ambassadors for the ‘NZ (Net-Zero) Generation Tribe’ in a ceremony held in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This program marks a significant milestone in empowering Cambodian youth to take the lead in achieving carbon neutrality and fostering a sustainable environment.
The appointed ambassadors will collaborate with Verywords to raise awareness of the importance of a carbon-neutral society across Cambodia and take concrete steps to implement sustainable practices through climate change initiatives and educational programs.
[Event Overview]
The event took place from December 14 to 15 over two days at the POPLE Station & Cafe, a multipurpose cultural venue in Siem Reap. It attracted considerable attention, with 35 university students from diverse majors such as Environmental Engineering and International Relations at the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) participating.
[Event Highlights]
The highlight of the event was the appointment ceremony for five student ambassadors, who will lead their respective “Tribes (teams)” in implementing carbon-neutral initiatives based on five core themes:
1. Transition to sustainable transportation
2. Energy optimization and efficiency
3. Recycling and waste reduction
4. Community engagement and education
5. Environmental preservation and ecosystem restoration
The ambassadors engaged in team-building activities to enhance group cohesion and attended workshops on digital marketing and content creation to align their social media initiatives with the demands of the digital age.
[Carbon-Neutral Tour and Hands-On Experiences at Angkor Wat]
As part of the event, participants joined a carbon-neutral tour of Angkor Wat using Verywords’ electric scooters, offered through POPLE Station & Cafe. This immersive experience allowed them to practice carbon-neutral living firsthand.
In his keynote address, Kim Sung-woo, CEO of Verywords, emphasized, “This program is the first step in discovering and nurturing talent in Cambodia’s carbon-neutral sector. We look forward to strengthening cooperation between Korea and Cambodia to spread a sustainable culture of carbon neutrality.”
One participant shared, “It was incredibly rewarding to collaborate with like-minded individuals who share a common interest in carbon neutrality, exchange ideas, and develop actionable plans.”
[Future Support Plans]
Building on the success of this program, Verywords plans to actively support Cambodian youth in their efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and address climate challenges. The company aims to lead the cultural shift toward sustainability in Cambodia through initiatives such as strengthened social media engagement, recruitment-linked programs, and startup support. អត្ថបទសហការ
